Our district heating systems are designed to save clients on energy, time, hassle, and cash. This is achieved as follows:

Energy Efficiency

The savings made by improving energy efficiency pile up over the years, making this possible the most important saving. Our systems have been independently tested to the latest standards, and since official records began two years ago, have led the industry (VWART performance), setting a benchmark for efficiency nobody else can match.

Commissioning Costs

Our HIUs come factory commissioned to clients requirements, and require no further commissioning on site. That is not to say they should not be commissioned, as there is always a need to check taps work, pipes are not crossed, and radiators are balanced. However the HIU itself requires no setting up, and in fact provides a reliable fixed point of operation against which to balance and check everything else.

Capital Costs

The incredible efficiency of our systems allows heat networks to be sized properly, to match load rather than losses. We have been recognised experts in the industry for decades, having contributed to official guidance on a number of occasions, so we know how to size networks properly, and how the latest guidance should be properly implemented. This knowledge and expertise is at our customers disposal to help ensure the final system is sized correctly, and this translates to a huge saving in capital costs:

  • Reduced boiler sizing
  • Reduced pipework sizing
  • Removal of numerous unnecessary regulating valves on pipework
  • Removal of low loss headers
  • General simplification and standardisation of plantroom layout

Our HIUs themselves are extremely well priced and very competitive, and been officially the most efficient on the market their value for money is unmatched.

And, because we do not just do HIUs (we also do cylinders and plantroom based systems), we can advise on what is genuinely the best best approach, possibly saving capital by looking up some other avenues.

Installation Costs

Since the 1980's our designers have led the field in pre-fabrication of plumbing systems, and much of what you see in the pre-fabricated cylinder market has its origins in our workshops. The latest developments in this field now cover entire cupboards, making it possible to have all domestic services (including the most efficient HIU on the market) dropped into a development, ready to roll. The saving is installation and snagging costs are now well proven by developers.

Reduced Servicing Costs

Our systems are known for reliability, and we stake our reputation on never having left a single end-user unsatisfied or unsupported. When this is combined with factory commissioning, and assistance in the design, the end result is reliability throughout the heat network with less problems after hand-over. Problems cost money.

One of the key reasons why we no longer have mechanical HIUs in our range is that they tell you nothing. An electronic HIU can tell you everything, with sensor readings and calculations performed second by second. There is no guesswork in fault finding, with the data from an HIU laying bare any problems both locally and on the network at large.

To make full use of this powerful tool, we have a range of means to connect the HIU to the outside world, with the purpose of enabling fit-and-forget systems that, for example, email your engineer whenever there is a problem or inefficiency detected.

Design Costs

Our advice at the very early stages of design can save a lot of time. As we have a variety of modern networks already under our belt, we can say what works best in each environment, steering the finer design process down the right path from the outset. Furthermore, we use AutoCAD Inventor 3D for all designs, and can assist consultants by providing ready made models of plantroom and cupboard layouts, with BIM models are provided for all products.

Over the past few years we have been evolving open-source software and spreadsheets to help designers model networks, work out loads, and size equipment and pipework. These tools are at the disposal of anyone with internet access via our wiki site and we are always happy to sit down and train consultants on their use on live projects.

Cost of Delays

It can cost a lot of money to hold up a housing development, so we aim to be able to deliver equipment on demand. To this end we stock typically a month ahead of requirements with the facility for next day delivery if ordered before 1pm.

As part of the Specflue Group, we have a nationwide fleet of vans, as well as three national depots where stock can he held and called off from. The use of our own fleet ensures equipment is treated with respect and is delivered where and when required, and in one piece.

Spare Parts

Electronic HIUs offer one huge advantage - all forms of control from temperature regulation through to DP control are performed using one valve per circuit. With hot water and central heating, that's two valves of the same type, with the same valve used throughout the standard range of HIUs. So if you feel you need to hold a stock of spares, it makes life much easier.

Added Value

While not a cost, the value a high quality system adds to the picture does relate to money. To be able to say that a property is fitted with the best kit there is (from official tests), adds value. People understand well the benefits of a property that delivers lower running costs alongside decent performance.
